Mini Artist Book Series

This mini book series focuses on Pete Cabrinha, Jack Soren, and Eduardo Bolioli. These three artists are immersed in surf culture and explore this theme in very different styles. I decided to make this series centric on surf culture because I am in the process of what my style of art is. I have the common thread with these artists that fuels my work, the ocean and the culture that is created from being in and around it. It was a beautiful process seeing how these artists express this one idea, connection to the natural world.
Pete Cabrinha
International titles in surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing have put Pete Cabrinha into an exclusive list of world-class watermen. It’s that same passion that has fueled Pete’s parallel life as an artist. Pairing his photography skills with his off-centre painting techniques, he captures the essence of a life lived above and below the Hawaiian waters. Pete’s lifestyle as a professional athlete, entrepreneur, and founder of Cabrinha® enables him to travel the world. With one foot in the sand and one foot on the sidewalk, he is continually inspired – not only by the ocean and the people of his Hawaiian birthplace but by the art found in the international cities that he often frequents. This cultural juxtaposition strikes a precarious balance that lends a unique flair to his mixed media artworks.

Jack Soren
From the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, Jack began his interests in art at a young age drawing characters and painting graffiti. The gutters of Hawaii were his galleries until recently making a transition in pursuing a professional art career. Jack is currently displaying his pieces in galleries on Oahu, along with painting large scale murals in various cities. Jack’s recent works draw inspiration from timeless concepts and historical context to bring them new life by adding a modern contemporary twist to figures, events, and culture.

Eduardo Bolioli
Born in Uruguay in 1961, Bolioli migrated to the United States in the late 70s, where he studied at the prestigious School of Visual Arts in New York City. Unable to balance his passions of art and surfing, he moved to Hawaii. During his early days in the islands, he made a living painting surfboards for world champions like Shaun Tomson, Martin Potter, and Sunny Garcia. In 1987, seeking to develop new ways to paint surfboards, he discovered Posca markers, developing a whole new way to paint boards. He soon became an art director for Blue Hawaii Surf and Local Motion while also designing for Quiksilver, Gotcha, and Billabong. In 1992, he became the ABSOLUT HAWAII artist in a campaign that was published nationwide — leading to a move back to his native country, Uruguay to work on the ABSOLUT URUGUAY campaign. He raised his two boys in Uruguay and by 2014 left for Hawaii once again. In September 2019, Bolioli will be launching a new swimwear line, except this time he is not just a designer but also a partner.
